Curbside Recycling Program
The Missouri Solid Waste Management Law (Senate bill 530) became effective in August 1990. This law requires Counties and Cities to reduce the solid waste (trash) going into the landfills by 40% no later than 1998.
St. James is a member of the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District, which was formed and officially recognized by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources in November 1991. The district has developed and implemented a plan to help meet this 40% reduction by establishing a recycling program.
The City of St. James started it's voluntary curbside pickup of recyclables on April 10, 1995. Residential recyclables and trash will be picked up one time each week, both on the same day. Recyclables and trash must be placed at the curb no later than 7:00 A.M. on your scheduled day of pick-up. All recyclable materials must be sorted. Recyclables and trash must be a few feet apart from each other. Recyclables should be in containers easily recognizable as recyclables.
